Srinagar, January, 19: Centre of Indian Trade Unions(CITU), J&K as a part of nation wide programme organized a protest demonstration of Scheme workers functioning in various sectors including Anganwadi workers and helpers, ASHAs(National Health Mission), Mid Day Meal workers and CPWs(Education), casual labourers to pressurize the government to concede their genuine and legitimate demands. Hundreds of demonstrators marching from Lal Chowk, Residency road, holding placards, banners in favour of their demands, hundreds of demonstrators were raising slogans and culminated the protest demonstration Press Enclave Srinagar. Addressing the protestors, Abdul Rashid Najar, Joint Secretary, CITU, J&K impressed upon the government to concede the recommendations made by 45th Indian Labour Conference regarding provision of Rs.18000/- as minimum wages to the scheme workers and labourers working in unorganized sector so that justice is done to his vulnerable section of the society. Mohd.Afzal Parray, senior CITU leader demanded the recent land mark judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in respect of “Equal Pay for Equal Work” be implemented in letter and spirit. Besides, he also exhorted upon the government to provide adequate budgetary allocations for covering this vulnerable section of the society under social security provisions.
